Big thanks to all the Nebula subscribers who make projects like this possible! Just know that your subscription is still well worth it as this is one of the last cases of a Nebula original going to MNdown. This is just a legacy of how the contract was when we agreed to do this original, but that's no longer the policy.

13:48 "The enduring legacy of nuclear weapons is not peace or energy, but destruction." "Ackchuyually," this kind technically false. The Nuclear Deterrent theory suggest that since the invention of the nuclear bomb (and the power it demonstrated in Nagasaki and Hiroshima), no new major conflicts or world wars have occurred as a result, nor have any nuclear bombs been dropped on a hostile nation since. So far that theory has proven that theory to be correct. Also, nuclear power remains in place in numerous countries, and is becoming the inevitable energy option should we wish to go 'green' quick.

Question: How many people have lost their homes (land) alongside rivers, cliffs, volcanoes, sinkholes, earthquakes, forest fires etc over the years? Before we all get teary eyed I urge all to have a sense of perspective, honesty and reality. Losing one's home is sad but to claim victimhood is even worse. Let this sink in. Stop jumping on the 'Global Warming' (name changed to Climate Change!) bandwagon and start thinking for yourself.

Here is my message to the people who refuse to believe the severity of global warming Ok, you can sit there in your tiny little bubble and ignore the world around you but what will happen will happen. Your not gonna wake up one day and find that the entire world ended ethir. But that doesn't mean nothing's gonna happen or that should that should be ignore what is gonna happen. Coastline will shrink and homes will flood and will go on and won't stop on unless do something. Climate change isn't a sudden thing its a gradual process that won't stop happening unless we make changes and the sooner we do that the less people get hurt.

Eh... We could bring em all to the first world with no cost to us, yet give them much better lives. This is the consequence of progression, some can't keep up. You don't deserve to "thrive" unless you stand out. The world is more complex than saying lets hold hands and protect some hunter/gathering society in the middle of nowhere

I don't think you understand these people aren't some random hunter gatherer society in the middle of know where these are people are a littoral nation. They have cars, and planes, electricity and the internet just like we do just they happen to live somewhere els and be different than you. Yes they can move some where els but think about it. In a hypothetical scenario lets just say something was going to come and destroy your home, the place were you lived all your life. Would you do everything in your power to stop it? Yes you could always move but if you know it could be stopped wouldn't you try to stop it? Now this this isn't just happening to you its your entire country that's facing this problem. Now really just move somewhere else? Maybe you would but you diffenity wouldn't be happy about it and would do everything you could to stop that from happening.

You're just a MNdownr and yet you resolved to take on this immense and grave topic by yourself as nobody else was talking about it. That is commendable to the upmost degree. The debt that the US owes these people is tremendous. We owe them a nation. Either we take on an enormous engineering project and build an entire land mass for them to reside upon right there in the atoll, or we give them complete sovereignty over a land mass we already possess. Not a mere reservation, but total sovereignty and autonomy over an equivalent piece of land.
Matthew McRee2 сарын өмнө
This documentary is utterly heartbreaking. It's bizarre that Springdale, AR has the largest Marshallese population outside the Marshall Islands, even more bizarre than how where I live (Minneapolis-St. Paul) being the capital of Somali emigration worldwide. The Marshallese shouldn't have to leave their homeland since climate change wasn't caused by them at all, but if they are able to build a better life in Arkansas, I cheer them on and support them fully. Love and solidarity with all people suffering the effects of climate change and American imperialism around the world. I hope we can save the small island nations around the world from climate change. Only government action can stop it, but capitalist interests will have to be fought and defeated by any means necessary.

As someone who has had both dengue and covid, those 8 months that they’re going through are probably tougher than the pandemic we’re experiencing. Dengue is absolutely ruthless, like imagine have body aching shivers from a 103-105 fever non stop until the treatment starts to work (it takes 2 days for diagnosis, 2 days for the medication to resolve the issue). Not including all the other symptoms you might experience. The worst part is they’re almost helpless to it. How can you completely protect yourself from mosquitos? You can try all the full sleeves, nets, and bug killer you want, and all it takes is a bite from one and you get sick.

Gonna be real here for a moment, this was an incredibly high-quality documentary on a very serious issue. As an American, I'm ashamed that I didn't educate myself enough on climate change; while I knew action needed to be taken because of word of mouth, I didn't know how urgent it was, and I certainly didn't look at it from the viewpoint of the Marshallese and other peoples whose homes might disappear forever. So thank you for bringing this story to light.

To be fair to Germany Austria-Hungry started the war, they invaded Serbia, Russia came in to defend Serbia Germany joined its ally Austria-Hungary, France came to help their ally Russia, Germany tries to get to France through the flat Belgium in the Schlieffen plan the UK warned Germany not to it didn’t listen UK joins on France and Russia’s side. Italy originally a German Austro-Hungarian ally doesn’t want to enter an offensive war and is later swooned onto Russia, France and Britain’s side by believing it can stand to gain more by taking on Austria-Hungary. The Ottomans join the central powers to take on Russia. Bulgaria joins central powers Romania joins the allies ect.

Robert Andrews2 сарын өмнө
I remember I was talking with my brother about climate change and he started saying about how it's not man made or it's just a conspiracy and I thought he was joking. So I mentioned a few studies that I had read and he got really serious, almost angry and I realized that he wasn't joking but he got (for lack of a better word) brainwashed by these ultra conservative radio people. I just couldn't (and still can't) imagine how people can dismiss all the scientific reports and proof that it is definitely happening and think that even if it is occurring, it's a natural cycle. There are certainly cycles of hotter and colder climates in earths history but none to my knowledge has progressed as fast as it is now, a natural cycle takes thousands of years to complete, not a couple centuries. But I think it comes down to 3 things, it's not an overnight thing where a wall of water comes through and miles of land are underwater, it's gradual maybe 1cm every year. (2) Scientists don't have an exact date and new evidence changes the dates, but you don't know what you don't know and the world is constantly changing so having a set number being the same for years isn't possible. (3) it will cost money and a lot of companies (oil especially) just don't want to change. People want to think that they are the best things ever, but quite the opposite, mankind is the most destructive creature and it doesn't sit well with people to know it's our fault.
